The North Allegheny School District’s Marshall Middle School will move to full-remote instruction on Wednesday and Thursday because of the number of positive cases at the school during a 14-day period.

The district also has canceled in-person activities and athletics at the middle school as well as Wednesday’s scheduled 2-hour delay.

Athletics and activities can resume on Friday when students switch back to in-person instruction.

All other buildings in the school district will remain open for in-person instruction this week.

According to the district’s online covid-19 tracker, five people at Marshall Middle School reported testing positive for the coronavirus between April 5 and 12.

There have been a total of 60 positive cases of the virus at Marshall, which is the most among the district three middle schools.

Carson Middle School had 37 cases and there were 27 cases at Ingomar Middle School.

Across the district, there have been 468 positive cases of coronavirus. Among those cases, 118 are staff members and 350 are students.

There currently are 22 active cases.

The highest number of cases in the district were at the high school, which had 98, followed by 89 at North Allegheny Intermediate.

District officials urge families to monitor their children for the primary covid-19 symptoms — shortness of breath, coughing, fever and chills.

Other symptoms include congestion, sore throat, diarrhea, abdominal pain, body aches and loss of taste or smell.

In addition to contacting their healthcare provider, parents should notify the nurse at their child’s school building if they test positive.
