McCandless' annual street-paving program kicks off
McCandless’ street paving program kicks off this week with work scheduled along five streets.
• Work started on April 22 along Broad Hill, Broad Meadow and Harvest Manor drives; as well as King George and Prince Andrew courts.
• The paving schedule for April 23 is for Caribou and Coventry drive and Piper Court.
• Paving is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 29 along Woodview, Meadow Crest and Broadlawn drives.
The work, which is being done by A. Liberoni Inc., will take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Cars parking along the streets during the scheduled paving hours will be towed.
Homeowner with underground electrical lines, dog fences or sprinkler systems that are located in the town’s right-of-way, which typically runs along the street curb, also are required to mark the location of the lines.
The contractor will not be responsible for any damage that occurs to unmarked systems, town officials said.
Paving work is scheduled to take place in two parts.
The first step is to mill or strip off the existing surface. During this phase, residents will continue to have access to their driveways, but are ask to limit the number of trips in and out to reduce disruptions.
The second phase will require the use of a “hot-mix” to resurface the road, which can be negatively affected by vehicles driving over the material.
Residents are asked to avoid using using the roadway, if possible, while paving is being done.
In March, town council awarded a nearly $1.88 paving contract for Plum-based Liberoni to pave nearly two dozen streets.
The streets scheduled to be paved this year are listed on the town’s website.
The schedule for work on the streets listed will be announced when the projects are set to begin.
