McCandless issues schedule for reopening, resuming services

McCandless officials on Monday issued a schedule for the town’s plans to reopen facilities and resume services as the state-mandated shutdown during the coronavirus pandemic ends in Allegheny County.

Town council and related boards and commissions plan to continue holding public meetings online through July. But Town Hall and other facilities will reopen on the following schedule:

Town Hall

Town Hall is scheduled to reopen to the public on June 15. Visitors will be required to practice social distancing and wear masks if they are physically able.

Only the main entrance off Grubbs Road will be open to the public and all visitors must remain in the lobby unless they have permission from town officials.

Park and recreation

The Department of Public Works has resumed issuing softball and soccer permits for Devlin, Wall and Vestal parks.

Town officials are recommending that sports leagues follow guidelines issued by the Pennsylvania Recreation & Park Society.

Permits for park pavilions are not being issued, but the facilities can be used on a first-come, first-served basis.

Playgrounds, tennis courts and basketball courts are now open.

Town officials said they cannot guarantee that recreation facilities will be sanitized and are advising users to disinfect surfaces and clean their hands.

The McCandless/Northern Allegheny Heritage Center is scheduled to reopen on June 24. No more than 10 visitors will be allowed in the building at a time. All visitors and volunteers must wear a mask if physically able.

Police department

Police are now is accepting drug take-back items at the station, and visitors are permitted to enter the building.

While police officials recommend that business be handled by telephone, the building is now open to people who want to speak to an officer.

Visitors must wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Services such as obtaining a soliciting permit and fingerprinting are scheduled to resume on July 1.

Planning/development/building

McCandless resumed construction and fire code inspections on May 1.
