North Hills hosting charity Trunk-or-Treat event, car cruise

The student council and the Hands for Service Club at North Hills High School are sponsoring a Trunk-or-Treat to raise money for charity in memory of a student who died in 2016.

The Saturday, Oct. 26, event will be from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of North Hills Middle School and will include a car cruise, trunk-or-treating, face painting, 50/50 and basket raffles and a concession stand.

The premise for trunk-or-treating is to decorate a vehicle’s trunk with Halloween items and pass out treats as participants meander from vehicle to vehicle.

A contest for the best decorated vehicle trunk also will be held.

Money raised from the Trunk-or-Treat and car cruise will benefit Make-A-Wish and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh foundations.

This year’s event replaces the Monster Dash 5K that was held for the past three years in honor of North Hills junior Jake Wudarczyk, who died at 16 following a 20-month battle with brain cancer.

Wudarczyk was a Make-A-Wish recipient and was able to attend the inaugural Monster Dash two months before his death.

Organizers decided to host a new event in Wudarczyk’s honor because of his love for cars.

The middle school is located at 55 Rochester Road in Ross Township.
