During the Oct. 20 North Hills School Board meeting, the board approved three versions of the 2023-24 school year calendar.
All three calendars show the first day of classes for students will begin on Aug. 23, 2023, and last day of classes will be held on May 20, 2024.
“The school board approved three versions of the 2023-24 academic calendar because Pennsylvania has not set its date for the 2024 primary election. The primary with either be in March, May, or April and that will dictate which calendar NHSD follows next school year,” said North Hills School District director of communications Heather Pelat.
One highly anticipated event’s length will depend on when the primary is held. If the primary is held in either March or April, the spring break for students will run from March 27 through April 1. If the primary is held in the month of May, spring break will one day longer, running from March 27 through April 2.
The holiday break, which is the same for all three calendars, will begin on Dec. 25 and run through Jan. 1.
Once the state announces the date of the primary, the district will update its website to show the final version of the school calendar.
