The North Hills School District has joined with the state Attorney General’s Office to offer parents and students a way to report potential threats that do not require immediate attention from local law enforcement.
The new “non-emergency” tip line is a way to report incidents of bullying, intimidation, harassment, weapons, drugs or other threats to the district, according to officials.
The Safe2Say Something system also can be used to report non-urgent illegal activity such as vandalism, theft, the sale of drugs or information about crimes that are being planned, which includes comments posted on social media.
Incidents that people believe pose an immediate threat to the safety of staff or students safety should be reported immediately to local police.
“Pennsylvania students deserve a safe place to learn, free from the threat of violence from classmates or other individuals,” said Attorney General Shapiro in a news release announcing the program. “I’m proud my office was entrusted by the legislature to run this new program focused on school safety.”
Analysts at the attorney general’s center will receive and review tips and then refer them to designated school contacts and law enforcement as needed.
The tip line, which can be used anonymously, can be accessed through the district’s website or by downloading a mobile app for iOS or Android devices. Tips also can be submitted by calling 1-844-SAF2SAY.
Any information supplied to the district using the tip line will remain confidential, school officials said.
