Northland Library opening for contactless services, programming remains virtual
Northland Public Library will reopen to the public for contactless services Tuesday after being closed since late December to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.
Items reserved before the shutdown that were not picked up will be available in the building’s vestibule beginning Jan. 5. Patrons can begin picking up newly reserved items on Jan. 6.
Patrons must register through the library’s calender to reserve items from the collection.
Reserved items can be picked up Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 9 am. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. The library is located at 300 Cumberland Road in McCandless.
The library is waiving fines for materials that were due while the library was temporary closed Dec. 26. Fines will be reinstated for overdue items returned on or after Jan. 25.
Starting on Tuesday, the library’s staff also will be available at 412-366-8100 to assist patrons.
Staff also can be reached by email at: NorthlandAdults@einetwork.net and NorthlandKids@einetwork.net
Northland’s drive-thru return drop and remote material returns at the Baierl Center YMCA, Ross Township Community Center and Marshall Township Community Center also will reopen on Jan. 5.
The library has been conducting most of its programming online because of the coronavirus pandemic, which will continue.
The library also is offering a program called Northland Bundles, which is a curated collection of materials handpicked by the staff based on your preferences.
Request forms for Bundles are available through the Adults Services Desk. Bundles also can be reserved for kids and teens.
Cardholders also will continue to have access to the more than 868,000 items in the library’s digital collection.
For suggested reads, see the Virtual Book Shelf. Cardholders also have access to the county-wide eResources database.
Northland is the second largest in Allegheny County after the Carnegie Library system.
