A traffic crossover on McKnight Road in Ross is scheduled to start Saturday, March 29, and be in place through late April, PennDOT announced.

Southbound traffic is expected to be crossed over into the northbound lanes to allow crews to start work on the bridge over Babcock Boulevard. Work to install barriers and paint lines in advance of the crossover will begin at 7 a.m. with traffic being moved to the outermost lanes.

Southbound traffic will be crossed over in the northbound lanes between Ross Municipal Drive and Brookview Lane at the Babcock Boulevard interchange. The new configuration will include one 12-foot lane in each direction.

The southbound McKnight Road ramp to Babcock Boulevard will remain open, PennDOT said. The on- and off-ramps on northbound McKnight Road at the Babcock Boulevard interchange also will remain open.

If work is finished sooner in this phase, PennDOT said it will implement a new configuration by crossing northbound traffic into the southbound lanes.

To accommodate the work, the Babcock Boulevard on-ramp to southbound McKnight Road will close to traffic through late April. Ramp traffic will be detoured.

The posted detour routes from west of the closure:

• Head westbound on Babcock Boulevard;

• Continue on Babcock Boulevard;

• Turn right onto Siebert Road;

• Turn right onto McKnight Road;

• Follow southbound McKnight Road to the closed ramp.

From east of the closure:

• Head eastbound on Babcock Boulevard;

• Babcock Boulevard becomes Peoples Road;

• Continue straight onto Evergreen Road;

• Follow Evergreen Road to McKnight Road.

The $26.99 million McKnight Road improvement project began in February 2024 between Venture Street and Perrymont Road in Pittsburgh and Ross and McCandless townships, including Babcock Boulevard and Evergreen Road.

Remaining work in the southbound direction includes drainage updates, milling and paving and side road adjustments. Side road adjustments and ramp work will occur in the northbound direction.

Work is expected to end this summer. Lindy Paving is the prime contractor.
