Police investigate the scene outside Ross Park Mall on Tuesday evening, following a shooting incident.

Ross police are investigating a gunfight that took place in a parking lot at the Ross Park Mall on Tuesday evening.

Emergency calls for the incident came in shortly before 8 p.m.

The incident occurred near the Dick’s Sporting Goods and Nordstrom store, according to news partners WTAE.

Ross Township Deputy Police Chief Brian Kohlhepp told reporters gunfire was exchanged between multiple people in the parking lot between the businesses. The number of people involved was not immediately clear.

He said one person is believed to have been injured in the shooting and was taken to a hospital. A vehicle also appeared to have sustained damage.

Ross police requested other departments be on the lookout for a silver 2010 Kia Sedona believed to be involved in the shooting.

According to the report, a license plate reader detected the minivan on Route 28 northbound at 8:17 p.m.

People in the minivan reportedly dropped off a victim at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, according to the Ross police alert. It said that it was unclear if the people in the vehicle were armed.

Officers were in the process of obtaining a search warrant for the minivan when located.

Kohlhepp said each store was notified when the incident occurred and that each store has its own protocol for sheltering in place.

“I know that the mall followed their normal protocol and they made notification to the stores, and to shoppers inside, which worked well and kept the mall safe,” Kohlhepp said. “And then when we came and determined the scene that was safe, then we evacuated the rest of those stores.”

At this time, officials said it is still unclear as to exactly where the shooting took place and said that surveillance video in the area is being utilized in the investigation.

“What we’re doing now is poring through surveillance video to see if we can determine who it is that was involved,” Kohlhepp said.

Allegheny County dispatch said officers cleared Dick’s at 10:34 p.m. However some officers remained on scene.
