Ross Township’s ode to the waning days of summer has been moved to a new location and expanded to two days.

The annual Community Day celebration, which previously held at the municipal center, will take place from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday at The Block Northway along McKnight.

“We are very happy to be partnering with The Block Northway to bring this annual event to our community,” said Commissioner Pat Mullin, who chairs the township’s parks and recreation committee.

“It’s so important to celebrate the good work that is being done by our community service organizations, businesses and our township departments,” he said.

Musical performances on the community stage will feature Let’s Groove Tonight, Velveeta and The Lava Game.

There also will be a variety of indoor and outdoor activities for children, food trucks, booths by various non-profit organizations and a display of fire, police and other emergency vehicles.

Some of the vendors who set up at the shopping center’s weekly farmer’s market also will be on hand for community day and a number of them will be offering specials.

The township is providing shuttle services to the shopping center on Saturday from locations at McIntyre School, Evergreen Community Park and the Christ Episcopal Church.

In addition to moving the location for the celebration, the event has is being expanded to a second day featuring a classic car cruise from 1 to 6 p.m. as well as a DJ spinning oldies music and a live performance from the doo-wop group “The Bloomfield Boyz.”

Frank Licata, president of LRC Realty, which owns the shopping center, welcomes the opportunity to team up with the township.

“We value the positive relationship we have with Ross Township and are pleased to partner with the parks and recreation department to host their annual community event,” he said. “This is a fantastic opportunity for The Block to showcase our lifestyle center.”
