North Hills Special Response Team officers clear the scene after a brief standoff on Thompson Run Road in Ross on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2022.

A Ross man faces assault charges after a brief standoff Tuesday with police, authorities said.

Robert Gentile, 48, is charged with simple assault.

Police said Gentile’s mother called 911 about 1 p.m. and reported he’d become irate, attacked her and then barricaded himself in his room.

Sgt. Brian Kohlepp said police were familiar with the home and had responded to similar calls in the past. He said police knew Gentile had multiple high-powered rifles in the home, including at least one AK-47.

Kohlepp said police arrived and Gentile refused to communicate with them.

The North Hill Special Response Team also responded to the home on Thompson Run Road. Kohlepp said negotiators were able to talk Gentile out of the home peacefully.

Police said Gentile could face more charges as the investigation continues.
