Ross Township emergency responders and past and current members of the military can get free help with wills and other legal services through the Wills for Heroes program on Oct. 19.

“Since I started (on the board of commissioners), one of the things I have been focusing on doing is somehow giving back to our first responders and military veterans,” said Commissioner Joe Laslavic, who launched the program during his first year on the board in 2018. “Obviously, there just aren’t enough thank you’s in the world to repay them for their current and past service.”

Current and former members of the military – as well as police officers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel – can sign up online to meet with representatives from the Pennsylvania Bar Association Young Lawyers Division to write a will or living will, as well as health care and financial powers of attorney documents.

To complete the online registration, click the “Ross Township and PLEA” link and then enter the password: WFH1.

Appointments, which are required, begin at 8:30 a.m. and run every hour until 12:30 p.m.

Once an appointment has been scheduled, participants must complete a questionnaire that they will take to the session.

Couples should schedule a single appointment unless they wish to meet individually with an attorney.

Questions about the registration process can be answered by sending an email to: Joanna Rodriguez at [email protected]; or Lauren Michaels at [email protected]
