SilverSneakers instructor in Pine a finalist for national award; voting runs through Aug. 11
The Pine Community Center is spreading the word that Leslie Basilone, one of its SilverSneakers instructors, has been named a finalist for the 2025 SilverSneakers Member of the Year Inspiration Award.
Basilone, 66, of Pine is among five finalists competing for the honor through votes from the public. The other finalists hail from Alabama, New York, Ohio and Virginia.
The national award honors individuals who inspire others through resilience, perseverance and community impact.
SilverSneakers, a leading fitness program for older adults, established the Inspiration Award to celebrate individuals who demonstrate perseverance, dedication to inspiring others and set a positive example in their community.
A longtime Pine Community Center member, Basilone originally participated in fitness classes as part of her own wellness journey.
When the center faced a staffing shortage, she stepped forward to help, training extensively to become a certified SilverSneakers instructor. She spent countless hours preparing — earning her credentials, shadowing instructors and embracing her new role with enthusiasm and heart.
“I relish the fact that having fun with my peers helps us all to stay healthy, and I am honored and humbled to be nominated for the SilverSneakers Member of the Year Inspiration Award,” said Basilone, who is retired from the Allegheny County Elections Division.
Today, Basilone leads full and engaging classes, where participants benefit from her energy, compassion and commitment to helping others stay active and connected.
“We’re incredibly proud of Leslie and the journey she’s taken to become a leader in our fitness community,” said Tyler Walker, director of Parks and Recreation at the Pine Community Center. “Her story truly reflects the spirit of SilverSneakers, and we’re thrilled to see her recognized on a national level.”
The public is invited to vote daily from Aug. 1-11 at moyawards.silversneakers.com/contestants/leslie-basilone-66-wexford-pa.
The voting is open to everyone, and supporters can vote once per day to help Basilone win the award.
