Virtual Kindergarten Boot Camp, Aug. 9-13 – A little bit nervous about the big step? Join us on the Northland Children and Teen YouTube channel, bit.ly/NorthlandKidsYouTube, for a week-long bootcamp designed to give your preschool graduate kinder-confidence! Each session will be posted at 10 a.m. and includes kindergarten readiness activities along with songs and stories that everyone should know before heading off to kindergarten. Children will need scissors, crayons and a pencil for their at-home experience. Activity Sheets can be downloaded from the website, or picked up at the Children & Teen Services desk.
Readings in Alternative Everything, 7 p.m. Aug. 10 – The current title is “The Intuitive Way: The Definitive Guide to Increasing Your Awareness” by Penney Peirce. Various mysteries of the mind and alternative ways of looking at the world are the subjects of books for this group that meets the second Tuesday of each month. Northland Radio Hour: The Scrap of Lace, 7 p.m. Aug. 12 – Grab a tea, settle next to your computer and join the library for a radio mystery! Will you be able to solve the mystery along with Detective Rosika Storey? Find out when staff from Northland presents the murder mystery “The Scrap of Lace.” Registration is required for this virtual program. A Zoom link will be emailed the week of the program.
After Hours Game Boarding, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Aug. 13 – Grab your favorite gaming buddies and join us the second Friday of each month. A selection of board games will be available for you to try or bring along your favorite to share with others. Please use the upper-level entrance. Light refreshments will be provided. No registration required.
Lost in Pittsburgh: The Forgotten History of Pittsburgh Jazz, 7 p.m. Aug. 18 – Tom Roberts from Hot Club of Pittsburgh presents the early jazz musicians of Pittsburgh through recordings, images and research. This period of history has suffered incredible neglect and this program helps to restore the legacy of many of Pittsburgh’s musicians who have slipped through the cracks of time. Registration is required for this virtual program. Please register as a household. A Zoom link will be emailed the week of the program.
