West View Council in March awarded contracts totaling about half a million dollars for road paving and demolition work.

Portions of five roads and a bridge deck are scheduled to be paved, while two buildings will be torn down to make way for the borough’s new municipal center that includes a new garage for the borough’s volunteer fire department.

The 2026 paving program was awarded to Youngblood Paving, at a cost of about $249,000. Youngblood was among six bidders.

Roads to be paved are:

• Stanford avenue, from Vassar to Yale Avenue

• Cornell Avenue, from Center to Highland Avenue

• Bellevue Avenue, from Center to Highland Avenue

• Ridgewood Bridge, bridge deck only

• Center Avenue, from Bronx to split at Waverly

• Center Avenue, from split to West View Park Drive

When that work will begin, which is dependent on weather, was not known, borough Manager Bruce Fromlak said.

Council awarded a contract for the demolition of buildings at 403 Perry Highway and 649 Center Ave. to Deller Professional Services for $249,950.

The building at 403 Perry Highway is the former Grotto Bar & Grille, while 649 Center was Scholl’s Bicycle Center.

The borough bought both buildings — Scholl’s in September for $535,000 and the former Grotto in January for $205,000 — to make room for the fire department garage. It will be attached to the existing West View Firemen’s Banquet Hall, which was donated to the borough and will be repurposed to house the borough’s administrative offices and police department.

Demolition is expected to begin in mid-April, after the contractor gets required permits from Allegheny County, Fromlak said.

Council could award the contract for the municipal complex at its April 8 meeting, Fromlak said.
