The West Water Authority is receiving a $3.8 million grant through a partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for water system upgrades in Marshall Township, the Corps announced.

The money is to be used to upgrade water main extensions along Warrendale-Bayne Creek and Mingo roads.

The grant is available through the Water Resource Development Act, which authorizes the Secretary of the Army to assist communities in Allegheny County with “water-related environmental infrastructure and resource protection projects,” according to a news release from the Corps.

Col. Andrew Short, commander of the Army Corps’ Pittsburgh District office, was scheduled to formally announce receipt of the grant during the water authority’s board meeting Aug. 21. West View Water Authority supplies service to more than 200,000 customers in northern Allegheny County, southern Butler County and eastern Beaver County.
