There’s still time to start checking off the TBR list as part of our Bookshelf Bingo summer reading program! Every two weeks, registered readers will have the chance to win a $25 gift card to Target or Trader Joe’s, and each item you log during the entire program enters you to win one of two grand prizes. The Book Lover’s prize features a $75 gift card to Riverstone Books, a “book nerd” puzzle, an Out of Print tote bag, and other literary goodies. The Picnic in the Park prize includes an Igloo cooler bag, picnic blanket, Yeti mugs, a DiBella’s gift card, and 5 pool passes to any Allegheny County Parks pool.
Children and Teen Summer Reading
Read Beyond the Beaten Path — through July 31
Summer reading is back with an outdoorsy new theme with virtual and in-person activities. Go to northlandlibrary.beanstack.org/to register for this summer reading program for those ages birth to 18.
Log the minutes spent reading or log the results of completing the self-directed activity challenges. Twelve badges are all it takes to complete the program! While you are hiking through the library, you will see some wonders of nature, such as: find the Moose on the Loose, guess how many items are in the jar, guess which book has been shredded, and the Eye Spy tank! Campers ages 3 to 12 and counselors-in-training ages 13 to 18 can take part in in-person programming! Please note that some of these activities will require registration, but not sleeping bags. Tail Waggin’ Tutors — Read to a therapy dog
Thursdays, July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 from 11 a.m. to noon
Children in grades kindergarten through five can register for 10 minutes to read to a therapy dog. Bring your own book or use one of ours. Please call the children and teen services desk at 412-366-8100 option 4 to register each available morning. The number of open slots will depend on number of available dogs.
Dungeon & Dragons: Royal Rescue
Fridays from 3 to 6 p.m.
Legolas Dorian Storm is in trouble. He volunteered himself to rescue Princess Faraday but is in way over his head. Can you help him reclaim his honor and rescue the princess? Bring a level 3 character and roll for initiative! Registration is required for this program for ages 12 to 18. Please register for one session, not both.

American Girl Kit Kittridge – On the job!

American Girl Reporter Kit Kittredge is on the job covering the team in this radio style program about baseball, Kit, and the famous Abbott and Costello skit “Who’s on First?” All participants will have the opportunity to play a part in the radio show, make some crafts and enjoy good ‘ole American baseball snacks in this one-hour program for children in grades one through five. Be there for the first pitch! Let’s Play Ball! Please register each child individually.
Dungeons & Dragons: Trail of the Serpent’s Pass
Fridays from 3 to 6 p.m.
A group of refugees is fleeing their hometown, but they’ve been denied passage on the ferry. The only way to get them there is a dangerous pathway through a monster-infested body of water. Bring a level 4 character to escort them to safety! Registration is required for this program for ages 12 to 18. Please register for one session, not both.

Your small, idyllic town is being plagued by werewolf attacks! Can you figure out who the werewolves are and save the village? Sleuth along with us at this after-hours program. We’ll also make and eat a snack! Registration is required for this program for ages 12 to 18.

Nursery rhymes, songs, tickles, bounces, and gentle library fun to nurture pre-reading skills. Babies and toddlers 6 through 35 months with a parent or caregiver are invited to bring a blanket to sit on during this 30-minute storytime. No registration is required.
