The Northern Tier Regional Library is holding a month-long used books sale in April to celebrate National Library Week.

Donated books from patrons will be on sale for 50 cents or $1. DVDs, CDs and audiobooks will be $2. As books sell, more will be replenished each day. Proceeds from the sale will be used to support the library’s programs, according to library director Diane Illis.

Illis estimated that thousands of books will be available to browse in the lobby and main library.

In previous years, the sale has been held for five days in the lower level, but to ensure covid safety measures were followed this year, the library chose to sell books throughout the month, said Carol Zimmerman, president of the Friends of the Library group.

Friends of Library helps Northern Tier Library with fundraising efforts, including the book sale, which is their primary fundraiser.

The group held a smaller book sale last September as a test run to see what adjustments would have to be made for the spring sale. Zimmerman said that was the last book sale held before this month’s sale.

Due to the pandemic, last spring’s book sale was canceled and donations were not accepted from June of 2020 to February this year. During that time, patrons called the library asking when the book sale was happening again, said Jessica Federkeil, the library’s public relations officer.

“We are thankful for everyone’s excitement and support about the event,” Federkeil said. “It felt good to finally say, ‘yes we are having it.’”

The sale will be happening in the lobby and main area during the library’s hours: Mondays through Saturdays 10 a.m.-6 p.m. The library will be closed on Sundays.
