Northern Tier Library programs, week of March 9, 2024
Upcoming programs at Northern Tier Library, 4015 Dickey Road, Richland, include:
• Knit Lit, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 20. If you’re working on a project, bring it with you. Talk about life, books and those craft projects you’re always working on but may never finish. Registration is required.
• Technology Help, 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays. Register for a 30-minute session to focus on a basic topic such as computers, smartphones, eReaders and more.
• A Great Deal card and game group, 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays on the library’s lower level. Offered are pinochle on Tuesdays and American Mahjong on Wednesdays, but additional games may follow. Registration is requested.
• Coffee & Crime Book Club, 6 p.m. March 25 at the Pine Community Center. The discussion topic is “The Guest List” by Lucy Foley.
On a picturesque island off the western coast of Ireland, friends and loved ones gather to celebrate the wedding of Jules and Will. But when one of the wedding guests is found murdered, the remote island becomes a horrific modern take on a classic whodunit.
• The Pine Needles, 4 p.m. March 26 at the Pine Community Center. All yarn enthusiasts are invited. Beginners can learn how to knit or crochet. Experienced crafters are welcome to bring a project on which to work. Registration is requested.
• Memory Care, 6 p.m. March 28. Erin McMaster, memory care adviser from Arden Courts — ProMedica Memory Care Community in Ross Township, will provide a look at the world of memory loss. Registration is required.
• P-R Pokémon Club, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. April 1. Bring your cards or games and join other Pokémon trainers at the library to trade and play together. Boards will be available for the card game, and a Pokémon-related project will be there to enjoy.
The event is self-directed and open to children, teens and their families. Registration is required.
• Trivia Time: Survivalist Edition, 6 to 8 p.m. April 5. Test your expertise in all things hiking, nature and survival. Compete in teams of up to four to win a prize.
This program is 21-plus and BYOB. Tickets are $5 per person or $15 for a team of four, and payment is required upon registration.
• Friends of the Library Used Book Sale, April 11-15. All proceeds benefit library programs, such as children’s holiday parties and the summer learning program.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday ($5 bag sale).
• Friendly Chess Tournament, April 13. Competition will be held on two levels: Junior Division for grades K-4 and Senior Division for grades 5-8.
Registration is free. Stop by the library before the event to fill out a registration card or call 724-449-2665 to complete. On the day of the tournament, please arrive 15 minutes early and bring a chess set with you. The library will provide snacks and certificates to all participants.
• NTRL Chess Club, 5 to 6 p.m. April 22. Practice chess skills and play against other youngsters in the community. The library’s program room will be set up with chess sets and tables for families to meet and play a few rounds in an informal setting.
This is a self-directed program for all ages, and registration is requested.
• Spring cooking classes, 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays with Chef Carol Nardello: Filipino Feast, April 23; Thai Party, May 7; and Mediterranean Banquet, May 28.
Classes are $45 each. If you register and pay for all three classes prior to April 1 (or when the class fills), the price is $110 for the series. There will be a limit of 30 attendees, so advance registration and payment is required.
• May the Fourth Be With You. Drop by the library from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 4 for a variety of crafts, activities and all things “Star Wars.” Dress in your favorite “Star Wars” gear and attend this galactic holiday. The program is for all ages, and registration is required.
Library hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. The library is closed Sunday.
The bookmobile is at the Pine Community Center from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and at the Pine Tree Shoppes in Wexford from 12:30 to 2:45 p.m. Friday.
