Irwin residents voting in the primary will not have to agonize over who to vote for in the Democratic and Republican nominations for council or mayor because all the candidates will win in the May 18 primary, barring a strong write-in campaign.
Mayor Bill Hawley decided not to run for re-election, leaving the Republican primary to Jeff Clem, an unsuccessful candidate for borough council in 2019.
No Democrat filed to run for mayor.
Three Republicans and three Democrats are running for their party’s nomination to four seats on borough council.
On the Republican ballot, incumbents Leslie Savage and Frank Rossi will be joined by Tyler Baum.
Incumbent Democrat Ronald Romeo will be joined by Courtney Khalouf Rahuba and Nick Powanda.
The other council member, whose term expires this year, Gail Macioce, decided not to run for re-election.
