The Rev. Shirley Musick, pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Greensburg, prays for Vicki Beuten’s Yorkshire terrier, Bella, during a pet blessing service in 2019. Most churches hold such services on or near the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi on Oct. 4.

A North Huntingdon church is planning an event to bless pets this month in honor of St. Francis.

The Blessing of the Pets, a reminder of the sacrifice of Christ, will be held for individual pets brought to the pavilion at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 12727 Lincoln Way, from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 11.

Donations of food and toys for animals will be accepted to benefit Pet Friends Inc. of Irwin.
