North Huntingdon-Irwin area covid cases increase slightly from April 12-19, 2021
The slight uptick in the number of newly reported coronavirus cases continued for the third consecutive week in the four ZIP codes covering most of the Irwin, North Huntingdon and North Irwin areas, according to state Department of Health data released Monday.
The number of reported covid cases rose by 2.2% from April 12 to 19, increasing from 3,043 to 3,111 as of April 12. The percentage has remained above 2% for three consecutive weeks in the communities with a population of about 35,000, according to health department data tallied since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.
There have been 1,539 probable but not confirmed covid cases as of April 19, up 52 from April 12. The number of negative test results since the pandemic began rose to 12,355, an increase of 133 from April 12.
In the North Huntingdon-Irwin-North Irwin 15642 ZIP code, there were 3,002 confirmed cases, an increase of 59 cases in the past week; 1,505 probable cases, an increase of 50; and 11,970 negative test results, an increase of 129 from April 12. The 15642 ZIP code covers parts of neighboring Penn and Hempfield townships, but not the part of North Huntingdon bordering Trafford or White Oak.
The Westmoreland City 15692 ZIP code had 64 confirmed covid cases, one less than was counted on April 12 and 20 probable cases. There have been 226 negative test results as of April 19, an increase of only two since last week.
In the Ardara 15615 ZIP code, there were 28 confirmed cases, which is the same as last week, and eight probable cases. There were 77 negative test results, up just one case.
The Larimer 15647 ZIP code had 17 new confirmed and six probable cases, the same as last week. There were 82 negative test results, one more than April 12.
