Norwin briefs: Irwin plans pre-St. Patrick's Day activities

Irwin plans pre-St. Patrick’s Day party

A celebration of Irish-themed activities is planned for a pre-St. Patrick’s Day celebration in Irwin.

The St. Patrick’s Family Fun Fest from noon to 4 p.m. March 11 will feature children’s activities and visits with St. Patrick will be in the Masonic Hall, 415 Main St.

There will be shamrocks hidden around the downtown business district for a scavenger hunt. An artist will create balloon art at Gift Basket World & Sarris Candy Store. Feathers Artist Market & Gifts at 102 Fourth St., will have a caricature artist and a painting project.

The Lamp Theatre at 222 Main St., is holding a craft and vendor show at Brandy’s on Main, 200 Main St.

Restaurants will be serving Irish cuisine. The Irwin Business & Professional Association is sponsoring the event.

Wildflower talk set for library

Those interested in wildflowers can learn about the wildflowers along Braddock’s Trail Park in North Huntingdon during a talk at 6:30 p.m. March 14 at the Norwin Public Library, Caruthers Lane, Irwin.

Jack Boylan, former Norwin school superintendent, will present the program that will inform listeners about which flowers bloom and how to identify them.

The program is free, but registration is requested. To register, visit norwinpubliclibrary.net or call 724-863-4700, ext. 3.

West Newton Library to hold fundraiser

The West Newton Library will give supporters the opportunity to win gift baskets at its annual gift basket fundraiser from noon to 4 p.m. March 12 in Huntingdon Place at the Turkeytown Fire Hall, 90 Supervisor Drive.0

There will be games of chance and raffle tickets will be sold.

The doors open at 11:30 a.m. and the gift basket drawing begins at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets are $20 and includes a light lunch. The tickets are available at Gary’s Chuckwagon Restaurant, South Second Street, West Newton and the West Newton Library, North Water Street, and online at west-newton-library.ticketleap.com.

North Huntingdon Seniors plan bus trip to concert

North Huntingdon Seniors are planning a bus trip to the Palace Theatre in Greensburg for the Pittsburgh Oldies All-Stars concert at 3 p.m. April 23.

Among the acts performing will be Pure Gold, the Vogues, the Marcels and Skyliners.

A dinner is planned following the show at Ferrante’s Lakeview, Route 30 in Hempfield.

Tickets are $179 for the orchestra seats and dinner.

The bus will leave from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 200 Leger Rd., North Huntingdon.
