Norwin area: Elks to hold Vietnam War Veterans Day lunch; trip to Lancaster theatre planned, axe throwing contest

Norwin Elks to hold Vietnam War veterans lunch

The Norwin Elks off Sandy Hill Road in Manor will hold a luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 29 to recognize Vietnam War veterans and all other United States veterans.

The complimentary lunch is being held in conjunction with the designation of March 29 as Vietnam War Veterans Day. Space is limited to the first 130 veterans who register. Reservations are required and the deadline to register for the luncheon is March 19.

Axe throwing championship slated

Axe throwing fans will have a chance to watch the top axe throwers from around on the world compete in the International Axe Throwing Federation U.S. Championship from March 7 to 9 at the ChillAxe Axe Throwing Lounge at 3000 Commerce Loop, Banco Business Park in North Huntingdon.

The winner, who will be crowned the U.S. champion, will earn a spot in the international competition in Toronto from June 11 to 15. The International Axe Throwing Federation is the governing body for competitive axe throwing.

An all-ladies tournament is scheduled for 6 p.m. March 7. The winner qualifies for the international championship in Toronto.

The main event with close to 120 competitors is to begin at 10 a.m. March 8, seeking to win the U.S. championship.

A skills challenges and big axe tournament with a doubles contest is to begin at 10 a.m. March 9.

VFW to hold fish frys during Lent

The J. Howard Snyder Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 781 on Billott Avenue, North Huntingdon, will hold fish frys on Fridays during Lent.

The dinner and sandwich will be available from noon to 8 p.m. beginning March 7 and continuing until Good Friday.

A fish fry dinner will be $14 and a fish fry sandwich with french fries is $13. A fish taco also will be available.

Lancaster theater trip planned

The North Huntingdon A.A.R.P. is planning a bus trip to the Lancaster Sight & Sound theater for a new show, “Noah” and a dinner show featuring “The Waitress” at Dutch Apple Theater, “The Waitress” on March 26 and 27.

The cost is $595 per person for a double occupancy room.

A $25 non-refundable deposit is required.
