Irwin Scouts planning mulch sale

Boy Scout Troop 284 of Irwin is holding a spring mulch sale. Black, brown and red mulch is available.

Orders can be placed online at www.Troop284Irwin.com or mailed with payment to Boy Scout Troop 284, 1670 Craig Drive, North Huntingdon, PA 15642. A

Orders must be received by April 10th. Delivery will be on April 24th.

Irwin plans concerts

Borough leaders are planning to resume concerts in Irwin Park this summer and have booked four acts.

The Skyliners, Jaggerz, Tres Lads and Johnny Angel and the Halos will be the acts to perform during two concerts in July and two in August.

The dates for performances are not finalized.

Norwin student lands Rodgers scholarship

Norwin senior Eva Schneiderlochner has been named the recipient of the John Bayard Rodgers Scholarship, named after a teacher in the former Irwin School District who left teaching and became a very successful businessman.

Following his death, his will established the John Bayard Rodgers Scholarship. The first scholarship was awarded in 1970 and it has been awarded annually since then.

Rodgers’ will established five criteria to assist in awarding the scholarship: moral integrity, intellectual ability, extra-curricular activities, financial need and personality.

Beauty salon opens in Irwin

A beauty salon has opened in Irwin, offering clients hair cuts, colors, facials, face and scalp massages, hair extensions, brow stylings, body waxings and spray tans.

Studio Haven at 407 Oak St. is operated by Toni Cavallaro and Cheyenne Long.

West Newton Library to hold jewelry, book sale

The West Newton Library at 124 N. Water St., will hold a jewelry and a fill-a-bag book sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 24 in the parking lot of the library.

Book donations will be accepted up until one week before the sale, but jewelry donations are no longer being accepted.

Those attending are asked to maintain a proper six-foot social distance and wear masks. The books to be sold have been wiped with Clorox wipes.

Parking will be limited, so those attending are asked to consider using the West Newton Senior Center parking lot or the parking lot past the library.

A rain date is set for May 1.
