North Huntingdon polling places changed
Twelve polling places are being moved to new locations in Westmoreland County for the May primary, including two in North Huntingdon.
The county elections board approved the changes last month. In some cases, the previous polling places no longer wanted to participate in the elections. In other cases, new locations were better suited to handle voters. There will be more space and parking and better accommodations for those with disabilities, elections director JoAnn Sebastiani said said.
“My goal is to get them all permanent,” she said.
The changes include:
• North Huntingdon 1-1: from Westmoreland City Fire Department to Westmoreland City Primitive Methodist Church, 1246 Fifth St.
• North Huntingdon 6-2: from Friendship Baptist Church to Irwin Fire Department, 518 Western Ave.
• Penn Township 2-2: from Harrison City Fire Department to St. Barbara Church, 111 Raymaley Road.
Town hall planned for school board candidates
Nine candidates for Norwin school board will discuss issues and field questions from voters in a town hall meeting April 26 at the Norwin High School.
Voters in the primary will choose four candidates for the school board. Two are incumbents — Brian Carlton and Raymond Kocak — while newcomers are Christine Baverso, Robert Bunovich, Alex Detshelt, Michael LeRoy, Dawn Lewandowski, Carrie McConnell Muniz and Dana Barvinchak Williams. All are cross-filed and seeking four-year terms.
Westmoreland County Judge Meagan Bilik-Defazio will moderate the event from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the high school auditorium, 251 McMahon Drive, North Huntingdon..
Registration is required and is first-come, first-served. Because of the Wolf administration’s restrictions on events, only 180 persons will be permitted to attend. Social distancing and masks will be required.
Those interested in registering can go to the Norwin Town Hall Committee Facebook page. A link is available to submit a question.
The meeting will be livestreamed on the Norwin School District’s YouTube page.
Norwin Town Hall Committee, a nonpartisan group not affiliated with Norwin School District, is sponsoring the event.
