Historical society seeks homes for holiday tour
The Norwin Historical Society is seeking homes in the Irwin, North Irwin and North Huntingdon for its annual Homes for the Holidays House Tour on Dec. 6.
Homes of any age — new, old or historic — are eligible to be part of the tour.
Homeowners need to have their house decorated for the Christmas holiday at the time of the tour from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 6.
Floor protection is provided and the society members will provide interested homeowners with additional details. tour is always the first Saturday in December (this year it’s Dec. 6th) from 3:30 to 8:00 P.M.
For more information, contact the historical society at 412-523-3222. The historical society wants to have commitments by the end of August from homeowners interested in participating in the tour.
Norwin students wins Skills USA honors
Norwin High School student Avery Waszo has won one of the nation’s highest awards in the 2025 SkillsUSA Championships in Atlanta last month.
Avery Waszo, a rising senior at Norwin, was awarded the high school gold medal in early childhood education during ceremonies in which a total of 1,250 gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded.
Waszo, a student at Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center in New Stanton, previously was a first place winner in Pennsylvania competition, which made her eligible for the national championship.
“This showcase of career and technical education demonstrates SkillsUSA at its finest. Our students, instructors and industry partners work together to ensure that every student excels. This program expands learning and career opportunities for our members,” said Chelle Travis, SkillsUSA executive director.
Art league awards scholarship
The Norwin Art League awarded a 1,000 2025 Visual Arts Scholarship Award to a Jeannette High School graduate who plans to attend Mercyhurst University in Erie in the upcoming school year.
The recipient, Abby Hohman, intends to major in studio arts. Hohman was selected from among applicants from several area school districts, said Cara Zanella, president of the Norwin Art League.
The NAL Scholarship Committee consisted of Linda Rusnock, Pat Miller and Zanella. The scholarship was presented to Hohman at a ceremony at Jeannette Senior High School.
