Irwin hires police officer
Irwin Borough has added another police officer to its force.
Ryan Krause of North Huntingdon was hired by Irwin council on Aug. 14 at a salary of $28.25 per hour, plus benefits, as outlined in the police officers’ contract with the borough.
Chief Dan Wensel said that Krause is working full-time with the Trafford police and department and part-time for the Manor police department. The chief said he will notify Trafford that he has accepted a job at Irwin and will start at Irwin on Sept, 26.
“He is very qualified. He seems gun-ho and we’re looking forward to having him onboard,” Wensel said.
Krause, who has been a police officer for three years, had applied for a job with the Irwin police about 1½ years ago, Wensel said.
Earlier this month, Irwin council hired Joel Aston as a full-time officer at the same starting patrolman’s wage.
Officer Stephen Novotnak, who was hired as a full-time officer in May 2022, resigned as of Aug.11 and Lt. Michael Thomas, a longtime Irwin police officer, notified the borough he will retire as of Aug. 31.
