Norwin VFW seeks members

The J. Howard Snyder Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 781 on Billot Avenue, North Huntingdon, is seeking qualified veterans to join the organization.

Kory Bulloch, VFW Post commander, said that potential members need to present their DD-214 papers as proof of service in a combat zone.

Bulloch said that the first 25 veterans who join the VFW Post, will get a free one-year membership. Annual memberships cost $35.

Bulloch said the VFW Post is hoping to attract younger members, such as those who served in the Gulf War. The VFW has one member who served in the Korean War and a dwindling number of veterans who served in the Vietnam War.

Library plans book sale

The Friends of the Norwin Public Library will hold its “Buy the Bag” book sale that allows buyers to purchase a brown paper bag for $5 and fill it with used books from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 13 and 14 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 15 and 16, in the lower lever of the Norwin Public Library, 100 Caruthers Lane, Irwin.

Car, truck and bike show set for Herminie

The Car, Truck and Bike Show will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 9 on Sewickley Avenue, Herminie.

First place trophies will be awarded to the top car, bike and truck. Dash plaques will be available for the first 75 drivers to register.

Registration is $10 on the day of the event or $8 in advance for those who call Christina at 724-309-4322

There will be food and refreshments for sale. The Sewickley Area Business And Community Association is sponsoring the event.

Irwin church to hold spaghetti dinner

The First United Church of Christ, 400 Main St., Irwin, will hold a spaghetti dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 14.

The price is $10 for adults and $5 for children.

In addition to spaghetti, the dinner will consist of a salad, bread, beverage, and dessert.

Bus trip planned for train ride in Franklin

A bus trip is planned to Franklin and the Oil Creek & Titusville Railroad for a three-hour train trip on Oct. 12.

The trip also includes a dinner, shopping and a visit to an antique music museum.

The cost is $220 per person, with $110 of the fare due upon registration, with the remainder due on Sept. 6.

The bus will leave the parking lot by the Excela Health offices at the Norwin Hills Shopping Center along Route 30 in North Huntingdon. Riders should be at the site between 6:15 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. The bus will return around 10 p.m.
