Comedy show fundraiser slated
The “Comedy for a Cause” event to benefit the Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western Pennsylvania will be held at 7 p.m. April 29 at Elements, 3000 Commerce Loop, North Huntingdon.
It will include comedians Teresa Logan and Phil Hughes, who will be providing the entertainment.
The cost if $50 and includes a 7 p.m dinner buffet, the show at 7:30 p.m. and a dessert table. There will be a cash bar. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Seminar on foot ulcers slated
Two Excela Health podiatrists from the health system’s Advanced Wound Center will address the signs and symptoms, risk factors, complications, and care options arising from foot ulcers caused by diabetes during a seminar at 6 p.m. May 9, at Excela Square’s South Entrance community rooms, 8775 Norwin Ave., North Huntingdon.
Doctors Allen Dzambo and Patrick Roberto will lead the discussion and offer strategies to help prevent foot ulcers as well as describe treatment options to promote healthy outcomes and improve quality of life. The ulcers that typically form on the bottom of the foot are subject to infection, persistent non-healing wound or other complications including stroke, cardiac, vision, neurologic or renal issues.

Norwin/P-T Democrats to meet
Democrats in Norwin and Penn-Trafford will have an opportunity to meet candidates running in the May 16 primary when the Norwin/Penn Trafford Area Democrats meet at 6 p.m. May 2 at the Norwin Public Library, 100 Caruthers Lane, Irwin.
The organization will discuss its efforts to “Get Out The Vote” in the primary.
Queen of Angels student wins state contest
Jessica McGinley, 9, a third grade student at Queen of Angels Catholic School in North Huntingdon, won the Pennsylvania Dental Association’s statewide poster contest for her entry in conjunction with the 2023 National Children’s Dental Health Month.
McGinley received a $100 prize and a certificate of recognition for her poster, “Dental Health Rocks!” She created a rock band trio of teeth musicians performing with dental “instruments.” McGinley’s winning poster was selected from more than 250 entries submitted to the state dental association in Harrisburg for judging.
The contest was open to all third-grade students enrolled in any Pennsylvania public, private, or charter school.
Plant exchange set in West Newton
The Great Green Swap of house plants, vegetables, perennials and herbs will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 6 at West Newton Vine Street Park.
Those who want to swap plants must bring one or more plants.
The event will include children’s gardening activities, bee hive information, gardening demonstrations and a master gardener’s presentation.

Library book sale planned
The West Newton Public Library will hold a Jewelry and Book Sale from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. May 6 at the library at 124 N. Water St.
Books will be sold for $5 a bag.
In case of rain, the sale will be held May 13.
The library also is accepting bids until April 30 for 24 books of the Guidepost series, “Antique Shop Mysteries” and for 12 books of the Guidepost series, “Tales from Grace Chapel Inn”, in new condition
