Norwin area weekly covid case count drops as of April 26
For the first time in three weeks, the number of newly reported covid cases fell week over week in the North Huntingdon, Irwin and North Irwin areas covered by four ZIP codes, according to state Department of Health data released Monday.
There were 48 new covid cases from April 19 to 26, which was down from the 68 new cases in the seven days prior to April 19, based on health department information. At the same time, the percentage of new reported covid fell to 1.5%, after hovering around 2% the past three weeks.
There were 3,159 coronavirus cases as of April 26, and 1,575 probable but not confirmed covid cases, an increase of just 36 from April 19 to 26. There have been 12,476 negative test results, an increase of 121 among residents in the four ZIP codes, which cover about 35,000 people in North Huntingdon, Irwin and North Irwin. The ZIP codes also cover parts of Hempfield and Penn Township.
The total covid number is counted from the first covid case in the region in March 2020.
In the North Huntingdon-Irwin-North Irwin 15642 ZIP code, there were 3,049 confirmed cases, an increase of 47 over the past week; 1,540 probable cases, an increase of 35; and 12,091 negative test results, an increase of 121 since April 19. The 15642 ZIP code covers parts of neighboring Penn and Hempfield townships, but not the part of North Huntingdon bordering Trafford or White Oak.
The Westmoreland City 15692 ZIP code had 65 confirmed covid cases, one more than on April 19 and 20 probable cases, the same as last week. There have been 227 negative test results as of April 19, an increase of one since last week.
In the Ardara 15615 ZIP code, there were 28 confirmed cases; eight probable cases; and 77 negative test results, no change from last week.
The Larimer 15647 ZIP code had 17 new confirmed, the same as last week, and seven probable cases, an increase of one. There were 81 negative test results, one less than April 19.
