North Huntingdon VFW plans Veterans Day event

The Rev. Daniel Lawrence of the Murrysville Alliance Church will be the keynote speaker at the Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the J. Howard Snyder Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 781, 100 Billot Ave., North Huntingdon.

An honor guard and a 21-gun salute will be held at the Don Kattic Memorial in front of the VFW building.

Tom’s Turkey fundraiser slated in Circleville

A dinner from Angelo’s Cucina & Catering, entertainment, beer, wine and soft drinks will be available at a fundraiser for Tom’s Turkeys from 5 to 9 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Moments Event Hall, 231 Jennie Hall in the Circleville neighborhood of North Huntingdon.

David Penn will provide the entertainment for the second annual Gobble Gala.

There will be 50/50 and a basket raffles. Tickets are $40 each and $75 for a couple.

Tom’s Turkeys provides food for families in need from the North Huntingdon, Irwin and the North Irwin areas.

Calvary Church has 2 speakers set for Hero Sunday

Two people with opposite backgrounds will share how healing can occur in the midst of racial divides during a presentation at 10:30 a.m. Nov.13 at Calvary Church, 8653 Pennsylvania Ave., North Huntingdon.

Richard Harris, a former Grand Dragon of the Indiana KKK in the 1970s, will be joined by Kenneth Stephens, a Black man who grew up in the South and served in the Army, as speakers for Calvary’s Hero Sunday.

Harris was a KKK leader until a transformational moment in the late 1970s, while Stephens has been on a racial journey of hate, hurt and healing. Both men are published authors.

Presbyterian church holding silent auction on Nov. 12

A silent auction featuring 53 items from area artists including paintings, quilts, photographs, stained glass, wood, pottery and a studio piano performance is planned for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nov.12 at the West Newton Presbyterian Church, 300 E. Main St., West Newton.

The proceeds benefit the nonprofit Community Revitalization of West Newton. Those attending should enter the church from Third Street.

Irwin Male Chorus will perform season music

The Irwin Male Chorus has several events scheduled to perform seasonal music:

• 3 p.m. Nov. 27 at First Baptist Church, 209 West Washington St., Greensburg.

• 7 p.m. Dec. 4 at the First United Methodist Church, Oak and Third streets, Irwin

• 7 p.m. Dec. 11 at Harold Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 671 Baltzer Meyer Pike, Hempfield

• 7 p.m. Dec. 18 at Norvelt Union Church, 2339 Mt. Pleasant Rd., Norvelt.

Association of University People meetings scheduled

The Association of University People’s club for single college graduates will host four dinners in November:

• Nov. 16, 12:30 p.m. at Nakama, 1611 East Carson St., Pittsburgh

• Nov. 18, 5-7 p.m. at Primanti Bros., 1539 Washington Ave., Mt. Lebanon

• Nov. 24, 2 p.m., Thanksgiving dinner at the Lamplighter, 6566 William Penn Highway in Salem
