Norwin School District students will bein online instruction on Monday and will return to school on April 9, if the governor permits schools to reopen on April 6, Superintendent Jeff Taylor said.

Gov. Wolf on Monday ordered school districts to remain closed until April 6, extending by one week the initial March 16 order that closed all schools in the state for two weeks in an attempt to stop the spread of the coronavirus. Wolf and the Department of Education did not rule out extending the closing beyond April 6.

If Wolf permits schools to reopen on April 6, Taylor said school buildings would reopen on April 7 for two days to allow school administrators, teachers, and other staff time to prepare classrooms, set up cafeterias, schedule transportation and arrange other business operations. Under that schedule, students would return to school on April 9.

Lauren Scheirer, co-producer of the Norwin High School’s production of “The Little Mermaid,” said she hopes to be able to reschedule the performances that were canceled from March 19 to 22, once the school reopens.

All current ticket holders will be able to use their tickets for the performances.
