Norwin to train potential substitute teachers
Norwin School District is planning a two-day training session aimed at qualifying people to become emergency-certified substitutes who can work immediately in the school district.
The substitute teacher academy is planned for 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 10 and 11 in the high school auxiliary gymnasium. It is open to anyone with a bachelor’s degree in any field, as well as Norwin student teachers and those completing pre-student teaching with Norwin. College education majors who have more than 60 credits also are eligible to attend the sessions.
Norwin this school year raised the substitute teacher pay by $15 to $120 per day in December in an effort to attract more substitutes. Like other school districts during the covid pandemic, Norwin has had difficulty attracting substitute teachers,
The sessions will offer an overview of the district, responsibilities, technology, school visits and classroom observation.
For those unable to attend, there will be a synchronous virtual format.
Those interested in the academy must register by March 1 at norwinsd.org/SubAcademy.
For more information, contact Rocco Telli, Norwin High School assistant principal, at telli.rocco@norwinsd.org.
