Persistent rain in the afternoon and evening forced Norwin to move its graduation ceremonies into the high school gymnasium, but the adjustment didn’t dampen the 90-minute ceremony for the 406 seniors who make up the class of 2021.
Lily Jarosz was the valedictorian and Quinn Kubistek was the salutatorian.
Cullen Shipley and Elizabeth Zapanta were voted as the outstanding seniors, which is an annual honor decided by a majority vote of the faculty. The criteria are excellence in academics, leadership, community involvement and citizenship.
Norwin School District officials said that local organizations, families, and clubs provided 50 local scholarships and awards totaling $225,735 to seniors.
The graduates also received a combined total of almost $4.6 million in scholarship money from academic and other institutions where they plan to further their education during the next four years.
