Let’s talk about the different social media platforms-the most popular ones and how they are used. From your profile photo to your bio to engaging with others, this presentation will cover the best way to use social media platforms and tips to keep yourself safe while using them. HELLO, BOOKSTORE

About the film: In the shadow of the pandemic, a small town rallies to protect a beloved local bookstore in its hour of need. A landmark in Lenox, Mass., The Bookstore is a magical, beatnik gem thanks to its owner, Matt Tannenbaum, whose passion for stories runs deep. WATER: A KEYSTONE FOR THE ECONOMY, ENVIRONMENT, AND COMMUNITY

Water has played a prominent role in the history and development of the Pittsburgh Region. From helping to power the industrial revolution, to brewing beer, to shipping on the 3 rivers, to almonds on the Oakmont Bakery almond tort cakes; water is an essential part of all that we do in Pittsburgh. Join David Sanchez of Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation as he reveals some of the many ways water will shape our industry, history, and future on a personal and regional level. Along with the history of water, there will be an examination of environmental impacts related to water and a look to the future of water resource management. Registration is required.

MOVIE MATINEE – Every third Wednesday of each month

Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 1:30 p.m.

Peek into the sights and culture of other lands through a travel or foreign film feature. No registration is required.

Nov. 16 – Foreign Film: Playground (Belgium) As seven-year-old Nora struggles to fit into school, she rushes to protect her brother Abel who is being bullied. Enduring the humiliation, Abel forces her to remain silent. This film gives us insight into a child’s view of kids and bullying.

Dec. 21 – Travel Films: Myanmar (Burma) and Zanzibar: Bagan, an ancient city of more than 2200 temples; exotic Mandalay; Swedagon Pagoda, a Buddhist pilgrimage destination in Yangon, Burma’s capital. Learn about slave trade in Zanzibar while visiting important sites: Sultans’ Palaces, Arab Forts, dungeons, and a spice plantation.

Passport Pals is back for more travel adventures this Fall! Children in grades one through five are invited to come along to exciting new countries without ever leaving the Library! Registration is required.

Family STEAM Night

An evening of STEAM for those in grades one through five and their families. Explore STEAM with five interesting activities. Only registered children will get a kit with supplies and instructions.

GIVING TALES

Friendship and generosity are the themes of four folktales featuring the whimsical puppets designed by Pittsburgh puppeteer Cheryl Capezzutti. Written and directed by Kellee Van Aken, the puppet show will be performed by Lexie Hellinger and Ryan Jordan. Families with children in kindergarten and older are invited to attend. Registration is required by all attending.

During this STEAM based program, we will read a story, talk about what happened, and do a hands-on STEAM activity based on the book. This program of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math exploration is for kids ages 3 to 6.
