With temperatures dropping to the mid-20s, the National Weather Service Pittsburgh is warning Monday morning commuters about hazardous travel conditions because of ice.
Late Sunday, NWS officials said any roads that were wet may freeze overnight. They urged motorists to use caution and take it slow if out traveling.
According to the NWS forecast, temperatures at 6 a.m. at Pittsburgh International Airport were indeed below freezing at 28 degrees.
Monday’s forecast for Pittsburgh and surrounding counties is mostly cloudy in the morning hours, becoming mostly sunny later in the day, the NWS said.
Temperatures are expected to reach highs in the upper 30s during the day and lows in the upper 20s in the evening, the NWS forecast said.
A NWS meteorologist was unable to be reached Monday morning.
Pittsburgh Public Works crews were called in early to treat city roads ahead of temperature drops Sunday evening.
The city called nightshift crews for a 12-hour shift with 40 trucks on the roads citywide until 10 p.m. and 20 trucks overnight to salt slickspots and problem areas.
