Oakmont’s glass recycling program collected about 7.59 tons of glass last year, borough officials announced.

There were glass recycling events in August, October and December with dumpsters placed at Creekside and Riverside parks for two weeks at a time to collect the glass.

“We could not have collected this volume of glass without the support of our residents,” said Phyliss J. Anderson, assistant to the borough manager. “Because of the pandemic, our recycling events were pushed to the end of the year, but our residents held on to their glass until we were able to coordinate the events. The first recycling event yielded over four tons of glass. That’s a lot of glass and (a) truly remarkable feat.”

Borough officials announced three recycling events scheduled for this year.

They are planned for April 12-23, Aug. 9-20 and Dec. 6-17.

Unbagged glass bottles, jars and jugs will be accepted.

Cut glass, stemware, glass bakeware, porcelain ceramics, window glass, light bulbs, TVs and monitors will not be accepted.

Call Anderson at 412-828-3232, ext. 1, or email assistant@oakmontborough.com for more information.
