Oakmont police Officer Tyler Jaecke was recognized by borough council Dec. 18 for assisting the Verona Police Department during a domestic violence call Nov. 20.

“(Jaecke) intervened and stopped a violent attack on a female victim and secured the scene for the victim and the injured Verona officer to receive medical attention,” Oakmont Mayor Sophia Facaros said.

Verona police Chief Ron McLemore was assaulted during the situation in November while responding to the call at Verona Gardens Apartments.

Sean Monroe, 29, was detained after attacking his girlfriend inside their second-floor apartment. According to the criminal complaint, when McLemore arrived, he was attacked at the door of the apartment.

McLemore was taken to the hospital from the scene. The woman, who police said was being attacked when the chief arrived, refused medical attention.

Jaecke was given a framed commendation and pin during the meeting.

“As I’m writing up the award and figuring out some of the wording for it, officer by officer came into my office and asked, ‘Are we going to recognize Officer Jaecke?’ ” said Michael Ford, Oakmont’s chief of police. “They immediately saw that what he did was above and beyond to settle the situation.”

Monroe was being held in the Allegheny County Jail, charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, simple assault and disorderly conduct.
