The Oakmont Street Department has released a tentative plan of attack in advance of the winter snowstorm expected to hit the region Saturday night.
The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings, and meteorologists are predicting 10 to 14 inches of snow will blanket the region.
Forecasters tell TribLive this will be the biggest snowfall in Western Pennsylvania in more than 15 years.
The warnings say severe weather conditions will start at 7 p.m. Saturday and last until noon Monday. The highest intensity of snowfall is expected Saturday night through the day Sunday.
According to a Facebook post from Oakmont Borough, main arterial roadways and hills will be prioritized and consistently monitored and maintained during the snowfall.
Streets without incline will be secondary, as will cul-de-sacs and dead-end roads.
“The department will respond to any location in Oakmont to assist with emergency responders when requested by police, fire or EMS,” the post said.
Residents with off-street parking are being asked to utilize it to make as much room as possible for plow trucks.
“We also understand that there are properties in Oakmont that off-street parking does not exist. In those cases, understand the vehicle will more than likely be blocked in,” the post said.
The following road portions are deemed “no parking” zones by the borough for the duration of the winter storm:
• Allegheny River Boulevard from College Avenue to Hulton Road on the train track side of the street;
• Fourth Street from College Avenue until its end on the eastern side only;
• First Street from Delaware Avenue until its end on the river side of the road only;
• The entirety of Park Place’s inside loop;
• Elm Way from Virginia Avenue to Edgewood Avenue;
• The cul-de-sac area of Lucca Lane.
