Children’s author Brittany J. Thurman kicks off this year’s Zelienople Area Public Library annual arts and culture speaker series, Zelienople Library Presents … .
Thurman is the author of the recently released picture book, “Fly,” the story of a little girl named Africa who dreams about entering a double Dutch competition. When Africa’s brother doubts her chances of success, she seeks a little help from her friends. The book is illustrated by Anna Cunha.
Thurman’s presentation will begin at 2 p.m. on Jan. 22. It will include a question and answer period and a book signing. The library is located at 227 S. High St., Zelienople.
Thurman is a native of Louisville and was inspired by her grandmother’s storytelling. Her background includes a Master’s of Fine Arts from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor’s of Arts from Kingston University, London. She is a former children’s specialist with Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.
Author Marie Benedict will discuss her latest novel, “Her Hidden Genius,” on Feb. 16 at 7 p.m.
The Zelienople Library Presents … speaker series is an annual fundraiser for the library.
Tickets for each event are $8 for adults and $3 for children. A season package is $20 for adults. The Library offers free tickets to the first five Seneca Valley students interested in attending a program.
