Police say one man is dead after being shot by two officers late Wednesday evening in Pittsburgh’s Greenfield neighborhood.

Around 10:15 p.m., Pittsburgh Police arrived at the 4100 block of Murray Avenue for a reported domestic disturbance, according to police.

After being directed inside a residence, police said the officers were confronted by a man with a knife in a stairwell. The two officers shot and wounded the man before attempting to render aid, according to police.

The man was transported to UPMC Mercy hospital and pronounced dead at 11:08 p.m. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as Matthew Foster, 24, of Moon Township.

Allegheny County detectives are investigating the incident.
