Cars enter the Squirrel Hill Tunnel via the Parkway East in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood.

Drivers on the Parkway East will see outbound lane and shoulder restrictions from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Edgewood/Swissvale interchange, weather permitting.

Crews are building a retaining wall outside of the tunnel near the site of the new Commercial Street Bridge, according to PennDOT.

Work to replace the bridge started last year and is expected to last into summer 2027.

Motorists will encounter further inconveniences on the Parkway East this year, including nine overnight outbound closures, a weekend closure in both directions and 35 days of outbound single-lane restrictions from 9 p.m. to 2 p.m. the following day.

A 25-day closure of the Parkway East is slated for 2026.
