Work on Peebles Pavilion begins

A groundbreaking ceremony was held June 28 at Peebles Elementary School for the new Peebles Pavilion open-air classroom. The Peebles Elementary Parent-Teacher Association Pavilion Committee presented the North Allegheny School District with a $50,000 check to pay for the cost and construction. Digging in at the groundbreaking, from left to right are: William Kirk, assistant director, North Allegheny School District Facilities Department, Project Management and Infrastructure Design; Alexis McKinley, PTA president; Susie Bjalobok, Peebles Elementary principal; Dr. Michele Dowell, assistant superintendent of elementary education; Jay Schmidt, PTA treasurer; Bill Brown, general manager, Baierl Acura, a platinum sponsor; Nikki Burger, PTA social chair; Dr. Kirsten Lin, Direct Care Physicians of Pittsburgh, a gold sponsor; Jamie Karlovits, PTA volunteer coordinator; Michelle Schmidt, PTA treasurer-elect; Shelley Rodgers, PTA webmaster; Catherine Reich, PTA vice president-elect; Amanda Hirsh, PTA vice president and Peebles elementary teachers Julie Pistella, Jolene Cernicky and Jennifer Selepack.

Ground has been broken and work is under way for the new Peebles Pavilion, an open-air classroom, at Peebles Elementary School.

A ceremony was held June 28 at the school. The Peebles Elementary Parent-Teacher Association Pavilion Committee presented a $50,000 check to pay for the cost of construction.

The pavilion is expected to be completed before the first day of school, Aug. 22, said North Allegheny spokeswoman Brandi Smith.

When finished, the pavilion will also have a brick walkway.
