Wilkinsburg man killed in shooting near Mt. Carmel Road in Penn Hills

A 24-year-old Wilkinsburg man was shot and killed in Penn Hills on Tuesday morning, according to the Allegheny County Police Department.

Police said a shooting was reported at around 10:39 a.m. near the 7700 block of Mount Carmel Road.

Robert Higginbotham, 24, was identified as the victim by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office.

Higginbotham was working with a landscaping crew in the area when he was shot multiple times, police said.

Allegheny County Police Lt. Venerando Costa said Higginbothamwas in a truck when he was shot and killed. Costa confirmed other workers were in the area, but no one else was shot.

According to county police, witnesses said the suspect, a Black male wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans, ran toward the truck and fired shots before fleeing toward the Mount Carmel cemetery.

Police believe Higginbotham was targeted, and they are still searching for the suspect, they said. Allegheny County Police homicide detectives are investigating the incident.
