On Oct. 2, the Rosedale Civic Association held a Night at the Races to raise money for the renovation of Rosedale Park. The renovation has been off and on for the past few years, with a recent fence being completed among the highlights.

This comes a little over a year that a local Boy Scout raised around $1,000 and built a new entrance for the park. That was really the first stage of the plan.

The plan is to improve Rosedale Park significantly over the next few years. They are looking to put in new playground equipment, a new stage, a walking trail, a splash park, a new fence and a paved parking lot.

That wasn’t the only money raised though as the Oakmont Elks made a surprise donation of $2,000 to the Rosedale Food Pantry at the event. The Rosedale Food Pantry currently serves between 170-240 families a week and has over 700 families signed up. There are 40 volunteers who make up this organization.

The money was received as a “Spotlight Grant” through the main Elks organization. According to the Elks website, “On June 1, we released $3.7 million for the Spotlight Grants. These $2,000 grants are available to every Lodge to shine a light on pressing issues facing American communities, including covid-19 relief which continues to be a significant need due to the ongoing pandemic.”

A week later, the Rosedale Fire Station received a fresh coat of paint courtesy of Pitt Makes a Difference.
