A Penn Hills garage along Bon Air Road partially collapsed after the homeowner drove into it Sunday morning.

A Penn Hills man pulling into his garage fell a few feet Sunday after a slab collapsed.

Penn Hills Fire Marshal Chuck Miller said it happened at 10:30 a.m. along the 300 block of Bon Air Road.

Firefighters said the driver had exited the vehicle by the time responders arrived, and he was not injured.

Miller said the municipal zoning officer inspected the site and found two support beams had rusted out.

There also were cracks in the slab and other “warning signs” of a potential collapse that were ignored.

Miller said it was a homeowner issue and does not expect any charges to be filed.

No other structural damage or utilities were found.

Penn Hills Volunteer Fire Co. No. 7 posted photos of the collapse on its Facebook page.

In July, a parking lot collapsed at an apartment complex off of Frankstown Road. About 20 cars were damaged in the incident.

Police at the time said the parking lot collapsed into a storage area that once served as the parking lot’s lower level. The parking lot split its entire length, dropping the concrete 15 to 20 feet.
