Grand opening of new Penn Hills Goodwill rescheduled due to construction
The opening of a new Goodwill store and donation center in the Penn Hills Shopping Center has been rescheduled.
Doors to the new shop next to Planet Fitness off Rodi Road were to be opened Friday.
David Tobiczyk, vice president of marketing and development for Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania, said some “last-minute construction items” have delayed that process.
A grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting has been scheduled for 10 a.m. on Nov. 5.
There will be a DJ and special promotions that day.
Tobiczyk said donations from other stores were used to fill Penn Hills shelves, and it is nearly fully staffed thanks to a couple of hiring events earlier this year. About 30 jobs were created.
The store is 15,000 square feet with 8,500 square feet of sales floor.
A contact-free donation dropoff point was established behind the neighboring Giant Eagle. The main doors face the shopping center parking lot.
Andrew Marano, vice president of donated goods retail at Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania, said via press release that everyone is excited about the opportunity to be in Penn Hills.
“We are so pleased to move into this new community,” Marano said. “We’ve had many of our shoppers tell us it would be a good location for a Goodwill store. We also know there are many donors from the area who will help make this an excellent spot for a Goodwill thrift store.”
Tobiczyk said there may be a “soft opening” a few days prior to the ribbon cutting to allow people to shop.
Donations to Goodwill are tax deductible if itemized.
Clothing and household goods are among the most needed items. Large furniture will not be accepted.
The nearest Goodwill locations to Penn Hills include an outlet store and donation center in Monroeville.
