Here are some upcoming programs at Penn Hills Library
The Penn Hills Library, 1037 Stotler Road, offers a variety of programs for all ages.

Registration is required for the following programs unless otherwise indicated; however, the following teen programs do not require registration. To register for any of the programs, visit the website and click on the events tab to view an interactive calendar.
Egg hunt ‘hop’penings
The library is hosting several egg hunts in April for patrons of ages.
• Music and Movement and Egg Hunt (birth to age 5): 11 a.m. to noon April 12. Singing and shaking will be followed by an indoor Egg Hunt, scavenger hunt and fun prizes in the children’s library. Each child will receive a basket prior to the Egg Hunt. Registration is required.
• Sensory Storytime and Egg Hunt (birth to age 11): 11 a.m. to noon April 12. This sensory-friendly storytime will be held in the lower level to offer more space and quiet. It will be followed by a special indoor egg hunt and scavenger hunt with prizes. Registration is required.
• Spring Terrariums and Egg Hunt (ages 6-11): 11 a.m. to noon April 12. Create your own terrarium or mini ecosystem with greenery, creatures and favorite characters. It will be followed, rain or shine, by a special outdoor egg hunt and scavenger hunt with prizes. Registration is required.
• Teen Egg Hunt (grades 6-12): 1 to 2 p.m. April 12. Join us for an outdoor egg hunt. No registration is required.
• Adult Egg Hunt (18 and older): 5 to 7 p.m. April 11. Join us to hunt for eggs and win prizes after hours at the library. Registration is required.
• Adult Laser Tag Egg Hunt (18 and older): 5 to 7 p.m. April 25. Adults are invited for an after-hours laser tag tournament. Registration is required.
Other happenings
CHILDREN
• Future Engineers (ages 6-11): 5 to 5:45 p.m. April 3 and 10. Come brainstorm and have fun building with different materials while coming up with solutions to unique real-world problems. The engineering design process will be our focus as we investigate and create models. Registration is required.
• Wiggles and Giggles: Toddler Time (ages 2-3): 10:30 to 11 a.m. April 4, 11, 21 and 25. Toddlers and their caregivers are invited to wiggle and giggle together as we share developmentally appropriate interactive stories, songs, movement activities and fingerplays. No registration is required.
• Prada the Therapy Dog (all ages): 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 5. Prada, an American Staffordshire terrier, is an American Kennel Club-licensed therapy dog who loves snuggles and listening to stories. No registration is required.
• DIY Crafting: No-Sew Blankets (ages 6-11): 5 to 5:30 p.m. April 8. During this crafting session, we will make no-sew blankets. Mark your calendars: The April 22 project will be designing felt animals. Registration is required.
• Maker Lab: Laminator (ages 6-11): 5 to 5:45 p.m. April 15. Participants will learn how to use a laminator to create wall art, signs, magnets, bookmarks and more. Registration is required.
• Slime Science: Bingsu Crunchy Slime (ages 6-11): 1 to 1:45 p.m. April 19. Perfect your slime-making skills. During this session, we will make a crunchy slime topped with Bingsu beads. Registration is required.
• Children’s Cinema: “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” (all ages): 1 to 3 p.m. April 26. Join us for a movie, snack and craft. This month’s movie is “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” a 2024 action adventure comedy, rated PG, based on the popular video game series. Registration is required.
TEENS (grades 6-12)
The library offers a variety of books in its Teen Space about college preparation, essay writing, SAT and ACT preparation, and school subjects that can be checked out at any time. Teens also have free access to tutoring help at tutor.com using their library card; instructors are available on a wide variety of school subjects. Teens also have access to language learning resources such as Duolingo and Mango with ther library card. For details, stop by the Teen Space.
• Audiobook Club: Pony Beads: 1 to 3 p.m. April 5. Create pony bead designs while listening to an audiobook of your choice.
• STEM: Lego Zipline Racing: 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. April 7. Join us for fun STEM experiments! Today, build a contraption out of Legos that can win in a zipline race.
• Paint Book Edges: 3:30 to 5 p.m. April 9. Practice painting the sides of books with one-of-a-kind art.
• Gender and Sexualities Alliance: Cardboard Pets: 5:30 to 7 p.m. April 15. Join us once a month in this safe, inclusive environment where everyone is welcome to be themselves. This month, design pets out of cardboard.
• STEM: Make a Slingshot Rocket: 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. April 21. We’ll make a rocket out of simple items.
• Make a MarioKart vehicle: 3:30 to 5 p.m. April 23. Stop by at least once to turn a cardboard box into a custom MarioKart car. Then join us on April 30 for an outdoor race.
ADULTS
• True Crime Week: “Evelyn Nesbit and the First Trial of the Century”: 6 to 7 p.m. April 7. Kick off the library’s True Crime Week by learning about Nesbit’s fascinating journey from celebrated model and actress to the subject of the nation’s first “Trial of the Century.” Other subjects will be explored throughout the week — April 8: Pittsburgh Mafia; April 9: Gangs and Outlaws of Western Pa.; April 10: Pittsburgh’s Vice Queens; and April 11: Identity Theft. Registration is required for all of the sessions.
• Wings of Spring: 6 to 7 p.m. April 14. Join naturalist Nick Stahlman, a wildlife habitat educator at the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania, and Dr. Sayge Smith, a veterinarian, as they discuss the life and history of wild birds during spring. There will be a guest appearance by a live American crow. Registration is required.
• Melanie Novak Presents: History of the Oscars: 6 to 7 p.m. April 15. Since 1929, Hollywood’s finest have coveted no prize more than the golden Oscar statue. Join us for an entertaining romp through the history of Hollywood’s biggest night, from its most memorable moments of fashion, bad behavior, inspiring wins and the head-scratching ones, too. Registration is required.
• Author Talk with Damon Young: 6 to 7 p.m. April 17. Damon Young is an writer, editor, podcaster and a Penn Hills graduate. He will discuss his debut memoir, “What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Blacker,” and his upcoming collection titled “That’s How They Get You: An Unruly Anthology of Black American Humor,” which goes on sale June 3. Registration is required.
• Merrymakers Jazz Trio: Pittsburgh’s Jazz Greats: 6 to 7 p.m. April 21. Musicians from Pittsburgh have dominated the jazz world over many years. Some have left Pittsburgh and moved to larger markets, others have remained in Pittsburgh. This show salutes their accomplishments as well as their music. Registration is required.
• Documentary Film Club — “Paris to Pittsburgh”: 6 to 8 p.m. April 23. Join us for this new club. We’ll be watching and discussing “Paris to Pittsburgh,” a 2018 documentary that looks at how Americans are demanding and developing real solutions to climate change. Registration is required.
• Tribute to Nikki Giovanni: 2 to 3 p.m. April 26. Pittsburgh native Kim Robinson will present a poetic experience showcasing the life and legacy of Nikki Giovanni, one of the world’s best-known Black poets who died in December at the age of 81. Registration is required.
ALL AGES
• Puzzle Exchange: 10 to 11 a.m. April 5. Bring in an old puzzle and find a new one at our puzzle exchange.
• Diapers and Books Giveaway: 4 to 6 p.m. April 16. Free diapers and menstrual products will be distributed during the library’s Community Fridge restock. Visit them in the cafe to learn more and get some products to take home.
