In brief: Ladies society meeting set, student news and more in Penn Hills

Plum Area Ladies Society (PALS) will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 6 at the Plum Community Center.

Plum Area Ladies Society is a service and social organization open to women from Plum, Penn Hills and surrounding communities. Newcomers are welcome to attend PALS meetings, held on the first Wednesday of each month from September through April.

Mary Bode, manager of Knead Community Cafe, a cafe where anyone can have a meal regardless of circumstances or ability to pay, will speak on the mission and operation of Knead Cafe. PALS service project will be to donate supplies and money to help with the operation of the cafe.

Requested items include: Paper towels, Mini Moo creamer cups; sweetened ice tea mix in canisters; 6-inch square styrofoam hinged takeout containers; dry creamer canisters; small liquid hand soap bottles; Clorox wipes; large food service vinyl gloves; Awesome Degreaser (refill size); Fabuloso Multipurpose Cleaner-lavender; Tide or Gain powdered detergent; cupcake liners; individual basked sweets, such as mini-muffins, mini cupcakes or cookies; and supermarket or Sam’s Club gift cards.

The theme for the Friendship Basket will be Everything Fall. For Ladies Day Out, the ladies will celebrate Octoberfest at the Golden Goblet on Oct. 23 at 4 p.m. Further details and signup information will be offered at the meeting.

Student news

Bob Jones University recently named Rachel Schweitzer to the Lyric Choir, BJU’s all-women music ensemble.

Schweitzer is a junior majoring in interior architecture and design.

Auditions are held at the beginning of each semester and are open to both music and non-music majors.

The Lyric Choir gives two major performances each year. This academic year, the group will perform a concert on Dec. 8 and a spring concert on April 28.

Women’s Business Network

Women’s Business Network is an award-winning business association that supports the success and growth of women in business. WBN provides members with the tools to be successful.
